Naturally Seasoned Logs

These logs are seasoned the old fashioned way using airflow and the passage of time. The wood will start the seasoning process whilst sitting in the stack  for up to a year, before being sawn and split, where it will finish the seasoning process in our seasoning shed.

Kiln Dried Logs

Our kiln dried logs are dried in our own kiln in the yard. The kiln is powered by a biomass boiler, utilising log waste from the process and slab wood from the sawmill.

The kiln dried logs therefore allow us to produce a better product whilst minimising our waste and maximising use of the whole tree. This efficiency combined with our restocking program and accreditation make our logs virtually carbon neutral!

The kiln dried log is clean burning and generally has a higher heat output than naturally seasoned logs. By burning at a higher temperature it reduced CO2 emissions, provides a quicker, better heat and in turn reduces flue and chimney residue.

Using these logs is the most carbon efficient way of enjoying a fire in your own home.

Our hardwood logs have been barn stored and naturally seasoned in the traditional way. Seasoning refers to the process of lowering the moisture content of logs to a level where they will burn efficiently and safely.

In the case of naturally seasoned logs the drying process is achieved simply by fresh air and the passage of time. Natural seasoning is environmentally friendly.

A half transit load of cut logs is recommended if you have a smaller log store or are looking to top up your existing log supply.

We offer a free local delivery service for all of hardwood season logs and kindling which can be delivered to homes and businesses throughout West Dorset and Central Dorset. Please note that a delivery charge will apply outside a 15 mile radius from Rampisham and may vary depending upon location and the size of the order.

Firewood and the law

Businesses selling firewood are now required by legislation to ensure that their product has been legally and sustainably sourced. This means that the timber has come from woodland that has a minimum of a felling licence agreed by the Forestry Commission.

Firewood, in both small retail bags and bulk loads, must have moisture content of less than 20% when sold. This must be accompanied by Woodsure’s Ready to Burn logo, giving you the confidence that your wood fuel has 20% moisture content or less.

Please note that your logs will reabsorb moisture if not stored correctly.

“Wet wood contains moisture which creates smoke and harmful particulates when burnt. As well as being harmful to your health and the environment, this can damage your stove and chimney and is an inefficient way to heat your home”
